1. Who We Are
Scribamus is a collaborative fiction platform where writers and readers create and share stories together. When we say "Scribamus," "we," "us," or "our," we mean the Scribamus service and its operators.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can exercise your rights over it. By using Scribamus, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what's necessary to run the service:
- Account information — your email address, chosen username, and hashed password (we never store plaintext passwords).
- Content you create — manuscripts, chapters, chat messages, and any other text you submit.
- Usage data — which books you read, save, or like; your reading progress; bookmarks.
- Profile data — your optional bio, word count stats, and books finished/read.
- Technical data — your IP address and browser type, collected automatically when you use the service.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, operate, and improve the Scribamus platform.
- To display your public profile and manuscripts to other users.
- To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset). We do not send marketing emails.
- To detect and prevent abuse, spam, or violations of our Terms of Service.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely via Supabase, which provides encrypted storage and Row Level Security to ensure users can only access data they're authorised to see.
We apply reasonable technical measures to protect your information, but no system is 100% secure. Please use a strong, unique password for your account.
5. Public Information
The following is visible to all users of Scribamus:
- Your username and public profile.
- Manuscripts and books you publish to the Lounge.
- Your word count, books finished, and books read statistics.
Chat messages within a manuscript's co-writer panel are visible only to the manuscript's authors.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
You can permanently delete your account at any time from your Profile page. Deleting your account removes your profile, manuscripts, and personal data from our systems. Some residual data (e.g. anonymised usage logs) may persist for a short period before being purged.
7. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to run Scribamus:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage. Privacy policy →
- Google Fonts — typefaces loaded from Google's CDN. Privacy policy →
- jsDelivr CDN — JavaScript library delivery. Privacy policy →
8. Cookies & Local Storage
We use browser localStorage to remember your theme preference, reading position, and bookmarks. These are stored entirely on your device and never transmitted to our servers. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
9. Children's Privacy
Scribamus is not intended for users under 13 years of age. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete the account promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be announced in our Discord community.
